Position Description:
The purpose of this position is to provide medical and psychiatric services to TRS clients and staff education.
 
Essential Functions:
 
Performs medical/ psychiatric assessments.
Performs medical evaluations of new clients upon admission and performs psychiatric evaluations as needed.
Provides weekly consultations with clients.
Provides on call coverage.
Responsible for Medication Management.
Responsible for providing medications according to approved formulary.
Provides on-going client education.
Provides on-going and quarterly staff training.
 
Additional Responsibilities:
 
Responsible for meeting quality expectations of accuracy, completeness, and is responsive to feedback.
Knowledgeable of and follows all JC, DSHS, and other regulatory guidelines/regulations.
Meets timeliness expectations of completing work as scheduled, demonstrating self-paced performance, and adjusting priorities as needed.
Professionally relates to clients and peers at all times.
Participates in weekly staff meetings.
Cross-trains and supports other units and facilities as needed or requested by supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned.
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Licensed as PMH Nurse Practitioner in the state of Texas.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to demonstrate understanding of a variety of models and theories of addiction, mental illness, and related issues.
Good organizational skills; ability to prioritize workload and work independently.
Knowledge of philosophies, practices,  policies and outcomes of models of treatment recovery, relapse prevention, and continuing care for dually diagnosed populations.
Understanding of diagnostic criteria for dual conditions and ability to conceptualize modalities and placement criteria within the continuum of care.
Must comply with drug-free workplace guidelines.
CPR certification.
Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into practice setting.
